February 2010 Poster Girl: Cathy Hoyles
Poster Girl Cathy Hoyles Ever since she was a tiny baby in a stroller, Cathy Hoyles has been bringing her daughter Nell to Johnny Ruth.  “When she was a little older Kim W. would give her a brown paper bag to do her stamping on and that would keep her busy while I shopped. The staff was always looking after her; she is just as familiar with the store as I am”.
A physiotherapy manager with Eastern Health, Cathy spends her days in a busy, demanding and sometimes high profile environment and she completely loves it, enthusiastically sharing that, “I love what I do and I work with the best people in the world!”
Speaking of love, she is also head over heels for her family, both near, and the ones she and hubbie left in Gander 15 years ago. Newfoundland and St. John’s top her list for their uniqueness, culture and “the fact that thPoster Girl 2ere are still wild places here!” And fashionably speaking, the loves of her closet are Iris, Brenda Beddome, Comrags and some vintage Johnny Ruth by Katrin Leblond.
The dress she wears here is from Iris and Cathy gets a lot of wear out of it. She pairs it with a jacket oPoster Girlr blouse for work and wears it alone in the evening, or with the gorgeous Katrin Leblond shawl you see here that hubbie gave her - we love clothes that do double duty!

Brenda Beddome’s cut is very flattering for a curvy woman.  The fabrics are great; you just know it’s well made.  I have a lot of her pants and jackets for work. Comrags add a little funk to her wardrobe, a style she leans towards for more casual dressing and for special occasions.

Cathy loves Johnny Ruth because our transparency fits with her own sense of social justice. She really appreciates the professional and knowledgeable staff, especially when she shows up with little time having no idea what she wants. But perhaps the reason she loves us the most is because we carry “good clothes for real women!” At almost 6 feet tall, years of volleyball have ensured her athletic build includes not only “long arms and legs, but a big bum and big thighs, and the clothes here actually fit me!”
Cathy believes that women need to embrace who they are, regardless of their age or shape. She is not impressed with traditional media’s portrayal of beauty and with her own daughter growing up fast she is even more cognizant of the inappropriate and unrealistic images out there. Cathy says, “Make sure you have a healthy body and a sound mind and you’re doing good. Nell Francis was named after her two great grandmothers; strong, capable, inventive, tough, kind and beautiful women from outport Newfoundland. We always tell her if she is half the women they were she will be ok.”
